Nadia Kaminskaya Wants Every Founder to Be Impossible to Ignore

At 16, every agency Nadia Kaminskaya called turned her away. Too young, they said. Too small a budget.

She has spent every year since making sure no ambitious founder hears that again.

Today, Kaminskaya is a six-time founder, a fractional CMO to more than 100 startups, the host of the Be the Boss podcast and the entrepreneur known across Tampa Bay’s business community as “Ms. Brand Boss.” She runs a women-led agency, a media company, an arts nonprofit and a St. Petersburg wellness clinic. And her entire philosophy fits into three words she has turned into a personal brand: impossible to ignore.

“At sixteen, every agency ignored me,” she says. “So I learned to be impossible to ignore.”

The origin story

Kaminskaya came to the United States from Russia at age seven. Yearly trips back to visit her grandparents, with a stop in a new country each time, taught her early how to read people across cultures, a skill she later described to VoyageTampa as “emotional intelligence when dealing with different customs, languages, and people.”

By 16, she was running her own tutoring service, and it was growing. When she went looking for a firm to help her find more clients, the door stayed shut. “When I approached companies about potentially creating a website, most companies completely disregarded me because of my age and budget,” she told CanvasRebel.

So she taught herself marketing, built the website on her own and fell in love with branding in the process.

The business did not stay small. Smart Tutors grew to more than 500 clients and 30 tutors with a 96% retention rate, and Kaminskaya built and sold it while she was still a full-time high school and then college student.

The operator

“I don’t just teach branding,” Kaminskaya says. “I’ve built six companies on it.”

At the University of South Florida, she earned a bachelor’s degree in finance, an MBA and a master’s in marketing, and spent time as a graduate teaching assistant supporting more than 600 students. She did not wait for graduation to start building. She founded No Monkey Business Branding to serve startups in Tampa’s incubator and accelerator communities, served as partner and chief marketing officer of Modern Consulting 360, and co-founded My City Cowork, taking a Tampa Bay coworking space from a year of research and investor meetings to opening day.

In September 2019, she launched Branding Bosses, a women-led, full-service branding and digital marketing agency in Tampa. Six months later, the pandemic hit.

“Many doubted our survival, and even I was on the verge of giving up,” she told Bold Journey. Instead, the agency came through it, and it has since grown more than 50 brands across web design, social media, content, paid media and personal branding.

The philosophy: revenue, not vanity metrics

Kaminskaya built her career in reaction to a problem she saw everywhere: an industry, as she puts it, “full of firms that overpromise and under-deliver.”

Her answer is blunt. “I measure success in leads and sales, never likes,” she says.

That standard shows up in the results she points to from Branding Bosses client work: a med spa that grew from $8,000 to $40,000 in monthly revenue in 90 days, an 86% lead close rate and a 5.0-star average client rating. She describes her approach as “strategy from a real operator” and “heart from someone who’s been the underdog,” and she is quick to add that it means no scammy packages and no mystery deliverables.

Clients tend to describe the difference in personal terms. “They don’t just provide a service, they feel like an extension of our team,” says Patricia McCullough-Johnson, a broker associate. Katrina Moseley puts it another way: “The greatest gift is the time back.”

The platform

In October 2022, Kaminskaya launched News Bosses, an independent media outlet built to spotlight Tampa Bay’s entrepreneurs, startups, artists and hidden talent, and marked the moment with the first Boss Gala, an immersive event bigger than anything she had produced before.

“I just decided that I’m done talking about it, and I started planning,” she told News Bosses at the time. “It’s as easy as that. Get over your fear and do it.”

Her voice extends well beyond the page. On Be the Boss, the podcast she launched with artist and producer The Ani-Me’, and on her second show, Boss AF, she talks branding, business and the unglamorous side of building something from nothing. The idea behind it came from a gap she saw in how people cheer on ambition. “They applaud a friend getting a job offer, but they don’t applaud the side hustle,” she told VoyageTampa.

She has been featured by Grit Daily, VoyageTampa, CanvasRebel, Bold Journey, St. Pete Catalyst and FL Innovation, and her own reporting reaches the region’s biggest rooms. This spring, she went behind the scenes at the inaugural Tampa Bay Tech Week for a series of Florida Inno interviews with leaders including Linda Olson, Santiago Corrada and Nicole Waters. On stage, she offers keynotes and workshops on personal branding, female entrepreneurship and building businesses with edge.

The community builder

For Kaminskaya, a brand is only as strong as the community behind it. “I understood that success in business wasn’t just about transactions, it was about building a supportive community,” she told Bold Journey, a lesson she traces back to that first tutoring business.

In 2023, she co-founded the Artistic Incubator, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, alongside co-founders including Brett Maternowski, to give Tampa Bay artists resources, collaboration and a bigger spotlight. Its Guava night at 1920 Ybor was billed with more than 40 local artists and 20-plus performers, from live painting to fire dancing and aerial acrobatics.

“Guava transcends the aesthetics of art,” Kaminskaya said when the event was announced. “It plunges deep into the essence of Tampa Bay, capturing the community’s vibrant spirit from its storied past to its invigorating present.”

Beyond her own organizations, she volunteers with nonprofits and offers her expertise to early-stage founders and startups.

The next chapter

Kaminskaya’s newest company is also her boldest leap outside marketing. She founded Sunshine Wellness & Aesthetics in St. Petersburg, bringing primary care, medical wellness and aesthetics under one roof, and applying the same operator mindset she has used to grow dozens of other brands.

At the same time, she is packaging what she has learned for founders who want to build their own personal brands. Through nadiakaminskaya.com, she offers fractional CMO advisory, one-on-one mentorship and speaking, along with a free newsletter, the Boss List, and her new eBook, Social Media Launchpad, a no-fluff playbook for launching and growing a personal brand on social media, built on the frameworks behind six companies and 50-plus brands.

The bottom line

Her advice to aspiring founders has never been complicated. “Don’t be afraid to start!” she says. “There will always be fear.”

It is the same advice a 16-year-old once had to give herself after the agencies turned her away. Fifteen years, six companies and more than 100 startups later, she is still following it, and making sure the next generation of founders gets seen.
